But Robert is blamed and punished publicly. Jane’s parents are horrified when they catch their daughter and Robert in a state of undress. The errant pair are spanked soundly on their bare buttocks and forbidden to see each other again. After Robert falls ill, he is sent to a Convalescent Home by the local authority. But a mistake is made about his age and he finds himself in a ward where the discipline imposed by the nurses and the toilet regime are more appropriate for younger children. He attempts to escape, but is brought back by the police and chastised in front of the other patients and the Board of Guardians. Eventually Robert succeeds in getting away from Miss Bunn’s tyranny. He becomes a servant to a fading film star and then lands a role in a TV soap opera. But he is still treated like a Very Naughty Boy!
